SUNDAY MUSINGS
now and that's the warmest it may be until Tuesday. Temps
are forecast to be in the single digits tonight and that's not
taking the windchill factor into consideration.
Apparently the car is not through eating up my bank account.
Getting some hesitation now and I think it's the choke. But since
there's no money to spare for another three weeks (rent's due
this week) I have to hope it keeps running for a bit longer
before I put it back in the shop.
Work is crazy as always. Not enough trained salespeople
to ring register or wait on customers so we keep hopping
most of the day. The problem's made worse by flu season
and callouts. So far I've avoided the bug(maybe that daily
navel orange is helping?)but I have felt a bit blech the
last few days.
Funny night last night in rp. I'd scheduled a miniquest
but most of the regulars couldn't make it for one rl
reason or another. A year ago that would have meant
a slow dull night. But by 10pm there were 12 nicks
there(not counting bots)and over half of them were either
new to the channel that night or only recently started to
rp there. Four were folks who'd wandered into the channel.
Another was J who the PoD had invited over and who'd I
had rp'd with as my Dhugal char. And she brought two more
folks over to watch and see if they wanted to play as well.
So most of my rp was welcoming new players last night,
and the miniquest scenario will run another night.
So if I don't feel too lousy today I will try to turn another story
or two.

MY ACHING FINGERS!
Today was productive writing wise. I wrote and posted
two stories to the list, a total of over 2100 words between
them. The first was about Mornaur and the Cauldron and
I put that into the Undercurrent series.
The second was the start of a series for DoH, called
Spoils of War and features the two rogues who
kidnapped Shane in Heart Call.
Both leave off in such a way that rp can be spun off
from them and I'll use one or the other to kick off
a miniquest this weekend.
And I still have two other stories in line to write
but I think I may only do one per day for a bit
and give my fingers a break! Err..rest!

SYNCHRONICITY
mind is whirling but everything else is tired.
Another brief respite from the colder weather although
they say it will be back next week, At least Winter
will be over in a few more weeks. Can't wait!
Work is the same scramble. Not enough staff so we're
run down by the end of the day. I had a nap in the parlor
for two hours tonight after I got home and ate my
dinner of ham sandwich and chips. I should also
point out that while the staff thinks we are short
handed, the Company, like Goldilocks, thinks it's
"juuust right".
Pffft!
The Days of Hell (or Heck
on. So far three different folks have posted and despite
their worries about how well they would do, all three
are quite good. All three promise more and there are
others in the process of writing something. The new
players are contributing more and more to the rp and
two are in the top five of the Most Active list. One of
them I know from past experience writes occasionally
as well as draws so I'll be hoping she does so here
soon.
The nice thing for me ..well..two nice things, actually.
The first is seeing other folks take the iniative in the
rp and enjoying themselves. The other thing is how
much more fun I am having since last October.but
especially the last two months. I'm getting more ideas
for stories and rp. the only problem being finding
enough time to write without my rp suffering.
I'm off tomorrow (well, today now) and plan
to try to write one DoH story and one Undercurrent.
I have to figure out where Mornaur's stealing the
Cauldron fits in as well. I could write it as part of UC or
Seeking..or start a new series just dealing with that. .
And I still have that Kil`marrin story I never finished.
Anyway, off to bed I go!

THE SONG OF AMERGIN
"I am the wind on the sea;
I am the wave of the sea;
I am the bull of seven battles;
I am the eagle on the rock
I am a flash from the sun;
I am the most beautiful of plants;
I am a strong wild boar;
I am a salmon in the water;
I am a lake in the plain;
I am the word of knowledge;
Iam the head of the spear in battle;
I am the god that puts fire in the head;
Who spreads light in the gathering on the hills?
Who can tell the ages of the moon?
Who can tell the place where the sun rests?"
Extract from "Gods & Fighting Men" by Lady Gregory.
Part III, The Landing.

DOH!
History" post, I had cause to make use of the Year of Hell
stories and was struck with an idea.
We have a major sl going on right now in the channel
involving The Hook's occupation by demon mages.
What if we wrotes stories about how each char is
involved with events or how they see them?
So I proposed the idea to the maillist and got
a fairly enthusiastic response. The first story
was sent in by another member and posted to the
list tonight. and others have said they have stuff
in the works. I'm optimistic about this but time will
tell.
Since this is going to be a sl shorter than a year, I
suggested we call it "Days of Horror" (or Hell..
or Heck
Which makes it..yes....the abbreviation is
DOH!

BETWEEN A YAWN AND A BRRRRR....
the sun shines brightly out there, it's coooooold. I've got layers
of shirts on again and I'm venturing out there to the launfromat
shortly. It's not the coldest day ever but it's harder to take 23
degrees with lower windchills aftert two days near the 60's.
Work is work. We had one person let go last week and another
left this week. Still another gave notice. Not only am I among the
older folks agewise but there's nobody on staff that's been there
longer than I now. I had my 6th anniversary at the job two weeks
ago. There's a few that started a year or so after I did, and then
a gap of three years or so to the next senior employee.
Gee, only ten more years there before I can get full Social
Security and retire. Yeah..as if I could afford retirement!
The car seems to be running alright now. Money will be a
bit tight though the next few weeks. Typing that last I
had to grin. Money is ALWAYS tight! Luckily my
entertainment needs are few so it's not all grim. I get
a discount at work so I can afford books that interest me.
I don't have cable but again there's some shows on the
free networks I enjoy. And of course there's roleplay.
and writing.
Imagination is free, too. All you have to do is exercise it.
As to roleplay, we're moving closer to realizing my goal
of having a Most Active List with 20 different roleplayers
on it. The most recent (today) had 14 and a majority of
the list had 100+ lines. Even the PoD cracked the Top
Ten and 173 lines!
list myself with less lines but with the quest last night.BT
would naturally be talking more. The main thing is to
keep everyone involved and keep having fun. And the
most heartening thing has been the way everyone has
continued to get along well with each other.
So far, so good.
Now, I need to go pick out a book to read while
my clothes get clean!

THIS MONTH IN CAMELOT'S HISTORY-FEBRUARY
Add 900 years to the date to get the actual rl date.
February 1098
Sir Poet and forces from Camelot takes over the defense of Paris
against the Hosts of Darkness during the Year of Hell
A song called "The Ballad of Morri's Quest" made the rounds of the local
taverns, much to Morri's disgust and Destilnys' amusement.
Sensing that something had happened to her friend LadyFyrandIce, LadyXan
went off in search of her friend..
February 1100
Sir Poet was sent to France by The Lady in search of her 'lost pup"
Lord Wolf.
Feb 1102
In what some might perceive as Mission Impossible, Skye
Blackthorn tells Vert she teach him the art of healing.
Feb 2003
When a patron inadvertently forgets his coinpurse at Amazing
Grace's Tavern, John Devlin pursied him across
the Hook and crosses paths with Tyralor.
Lady Wenn unexpectedly dropped into The Hook
A young man named Elasol arrived in Camelot.
Feb 2004
The guard Angus pressed on in his trip north in
search of Najitha.
IN A CLOUD OF.... SOMETHING OR OTHER
I lucked out this morning. There was very little work involved getting
the car shoveled off and I made it to work ok. But as I pulled into
the parking lot the engine sounded a bit rough. On the way home
I noticed the sound was louder, more like a scrape, and when
I stopped at a traffic light about a mile from the house steam or
smoke came out from under the hood. I made it all the way
home and got out of the car in the midst of a large cloud of
whatever it was under there.
My next door neighbor, who I think was hoping to talk me into
taking her to the corner store on a cigarette run was sitting outside
(in frigid cold) and gave a running commentary peppered with a
few "Mother of Gawd!"s. Anywho, it cleared up but it was too
dark to see exactly what was up down there so I'll look in
the morning Just what I need now..a down car.
I was thinking about the channel while having lunch at work`
one day last week and got to wondering about how long
some of the roleplayers had been in our Camelot and what
age they had been when they first entered.I knew at least 2 had
been in their teens (and one from her early teens at that) but
the actual number seems to be more like 5 or 6. And another
question about the date the original Dalnet Cams was founded
was answered as being September 1996. So, this September
will be our tenth anniversary.
We've literally had roleplayers who've grown up in Camelot!

AGGIE
ten children that would survive infancy. She grew up in a Irish
Catholic family, her father a laborer on the Boston Elevated
Railway.
In 1924 she married Edward F.White Sr. They had two
children before the third died and then Edward walked out
on them in the middle of the Great Depression, leaving Aggie
to raise the children on her own and then divorcing her.It was
hard for her. She'd had rheumatic fever as a child in a time
when it was a deadly disease and although she'd survived it
left her with a weak heart.
Somehow she did it and brought her children to adulthood,
even though it meant sometimes ducking her rebellious
son's head in the sink when he used swears and nursing her own
daughter through a case of scarlet fever. Then she had to survive
watching her son join the Navy at 18 to fight in WW2. All this
while living a life of what was shame back then: a divorced
Catholic woman whose husband had left her for another woman.
I knew her as Nanny, my grandmiother, and she lived with us
when I was a kid. My dad and her son Eddie had bought a
two family home after the war in Malden and so Aggie saw
all five of her grandchildren everyday. But she spent most of the
time with my sister and I because our parents both worked
She was a quiet woman, black haired with grey streaks and
usually wore those one piece housedresses. I recall her eating
peas by rolling them down the blade of her knife into her mouth
and looking back I think she did it to amuse me and tease my
Mom. She never yelled but I vividly remember her breaking up
a knockdown fight between the two Italian ladies who lived in the
houses to either side of ours and doing it with a slightly louder
than usual voice and a disgusted tone.
As time went by her rheumatic heart got worse and she needed
an oxygen tank in her bedroom for when her breathing was bad.
And finally, she died at age 58 on February 12th, 1957
Most of her life had been rough. I hope her last few years
helped make up for that. As one of her nephews told
me a few years ago: "Aunt Aggie was one tough woman, but
she was always a lady."
AARGH..........SNOW!!!!!!
20 inches + of snow by the time it ends around 7pm. The
winds are about 40 mph and I've got some drafts from
higher gusts since the insulation is minimal in this place.
We've got about a foot of snow so far and it's drifting,
So, the apartment is a bit cool and drafty, and I've piled
on the clothes: undershirt, turtleneck, heavy jersey, denim
shirt, heavy jersey, hooded sweatshirt, and baseball cap.
I have the hood up in Unibomber mode
spaghetti for dinner tonight because the boiling water helps
heat the place. And if it is really cold I'll turn on the electric
oven and leave the door open. It's things my folks had to do
when I was a kid so it's nothing new for me and plenty of
other folks living in old apartments.
Thankfully, it's Sunday and my day off. I'll deal with digging
out tomorrow because doing it tonight is pointless until that
wind dies down. So I'll read, rp, write, maybe nap out the storm
Rp the last few nights has been good even though I've not been
at my best because of a headcold coming on and being beat from
work. But others are picking up the slack and the channel has
been in use for more time these past few days then there has been
inactivity. There was a good turnout for the dance last night.
I still have the second half of the cliffhanger to finish before
Snooks kills me for leaving our eldest in danger.
But right now, I need another cup of coffee.

SERENDIPITY
seems to be going along alright.Work is a bit slow right now and
I'm sweating out the employee evaluations where traditionally in
the Company older higher paid employees are winnowed out.
Except for that, things are fine. The foot and legs feel close to
normal. We've had little snow this winter but they are calling
for a big oine this Saturday night so I am not looking forwards
to driving home from work in itthe whole mess. But Winter is nearly
two thirds over!.
Finally got the first part of the story done and emailed earlier
tonight. Tokk long enough to get it done,The first line kept
banging around in my head until I had to get it out.
And rp is still doing very well.
But that's for another post. I'm tired and bed calls.

OVER A CUP OF COFFEE
Whoever invented navel oranges has my undying admiration. There's
nothing like the taste of them, in my opinion.
And likewise, the folks who came up with the soft gel arch support
inserts. My foot is 99% better since I started using them and except
for the end of the day when I've been on them all day, my feet don't
hurt anymore.
The kid from Massachusetts who died in the shootout in Arkansas
after killing a police officer and a woman started off with a hatchet
attack and shootings on three gay bar patrons. The website he
ran is chilling to see with the Neo Nazi slogans and talk of killing.
My question is: Why did his parents not see this disturbing behavior
sooner? Why did the local police, who knew this kid from past
trouble, not push the parents to act? At any rate, it's graphic
evidence of the destructive power of hate and that not all lost
souls are harmless.
Speaking of hate..let's see..you put a bag over somebody's head,
stuff him into a sleeping bag, and then sit on him until he smothers
to death. And then a court-martial lets you off with a five year
sentence for manslaughter? Oh..the victim was an Iraqui Moslem?
That makes it alright then? Umm..no. If that had been something
some gang member did to someone over here he'd be sitting on
death row now. What kind of signal are we sending to kids who
see how easily this man got off for killing a prisoner? No wonder
the terrorists find it so easy to recruit kids over there to blow
themselves up or set roadside bombs for our troops.
Rp is doing well. Three more players have returned who left at
different points of Cam's history. And I have a few stories banging
around in my head begging to be written. One of which I will
work on when I get back from the laundromat.
Off to the washers!
