March roared in like a lion as the citizens of Camelot
reeled in the aftermath of the battle in The Hook. Especially
hard hit were TomTom,who’d been wounded in his first exposure
to combat, and Jarod who had drawn scenes of the fighting even
before it had begun.
But even as Camelot regained its footing, new events
emerged to challenge it.
Tomas discovered a strange tome apparently written in
Dwarvish and brought it to Blackthorn, but so far Ian has not
been able to have it translated for them.
Bayla regained consciousness but his mind was reduced
to that of a young child. The discussion among Ian, Palmer
and Tyralor led to no immediate solution and Mixik ended up
being drafted to watch over Bayla as he crawled about the
castle.
Tension took its toll and in a heated discussion between
Ian and Tyralor (one of many that would occur over the next few
weeks) words were said that nearly led to the two half-elves
settling their differences on the sands of the Arena. The
ntervention of the healer Pendra helped settle the matter before
it got that far, and Ian later issued an apology and roses to
Quincy at Tyralor’s insistence, even though Ian had no idea
at the time what his offense had been. What was an awkward moment
for Blackthorn was luckily interrupted by the arrival of Stugs the
fae dragon.
The kidnapping of Adalberrina van Urforth was concluded happily
as she was rescued after Ian, Angelica, and Pendra delivered the ransom.
The two kidnappers, Madoc and Brynn, escaped with the money in the
confusion and their whereabouts remain unknown.
Kalaris had been intently studying the magical barrier around The
Hook and had discovered there was a random pattern of periodical weak
spots within it. When she reported her findings to Blackthorn in the
firehall, Tyralor once more claimed he was able to move in and out of
The Hook at will, and an annoyed Ian demanded the other half-elf prove
it.
The next night a search party was formed consistin of Blackthorn,
Tyralor, Morninglord, Quincy, Glofin, Queen Sarah,. Lucent, Brigitte,
Robecca, Nautchiq, and Tomas. Tyralor produced an opening into The Hook
that involved using Bayla and the bell Maylon had given Tyralor a few
weeks before. Once inside, Bayla ran off and as the others anxiously
pursued him, Tomas engaged several demon in combat. Bayla led the
others on a merry chase duriing which they were attacked first by small
batlike creatures called skreelings and then by mercenaries roused by
the noise. But Bayla eventually led the group to a small chapel where
the healer Winsten and three others had been hiding from the invaders.
Tyralor and Quincy left for a meeting somewhere within the Hook while
the others went back to the firehall by way of a tunnel and sewers.
A few evenings later Lady Jolieve brought a message from Taralon
Phoenix that there had been an increase in sightings of brigands along
the border between Camelot and the von Phoenix estates, and Ian increased
the number of patrols as a result.
The young woman Nobly had taken charge of the Library during
Bayla’s incapacitation and fretted over the mysteries of making ink
among other matters. Even so she found time to search the books in her
care for some way Bayla might be cured, which led her to question Ian
as to what he might know about the subject. When Ian mentioned LadyXan
as one of the few people who were able to heal one of the Deylarosta’s
Nobly was inspired to plan a trip to Avalon in search of the woman.
Ian strongly discouraged it, but Nobly is a most determined young woman
and soon had recruited TomTom’s help. Blackthorn continued to watch the
two in order to prevent their quest.
Kalaris informed Ian that a weak spot in the barrier could be
forced open by a person skilled in magery and so another party once
more was formed to search the Hook for survivors. The opening was
reated by cloak while Ian led the rest through it. The party included
Lord Corwin, Glofin, Lyrick, Lucent, Nobly, TomTom and Saysuna
McDaniels They snuck by a group of mercenaries and were able to
find Teag the tavernkeeper who had been hurt and was hidden by the
woman Amanda and some of the street urchins. Before they could leave
the Hook they had to fight their way back through the mercenaries who
were brawling in the street leading back to the opening.
But while Blackthorn and the others were fighting their way back
to the wall,Tyralor was persuading cloak that leaving the way into the
Hook open was also allowing creatures to escape out into Camelot. So
the group arrived on their side to find theeir way out slowly closing
as four demons appeared to attack them. After some fighting everyone
managed to escape but Blackthorn, Corwin and others were furious with
Tyralor over nearly stranding them inside. Convinced that more
expeditions would needlessly waste the lives of his men, Blackthorn
decided that for the moment he will not lead any more forays into the
Hook.
Jarod the Bard left the firehall one night and has not been
seen since. The cave he was sheltering in collapsed in a cave in.
Nobly and TomTom continued their discussions about journeying
to Avalon. As they talked one night in the Library a squirrel with
green eyes scampered through the stacks and knocked three books off
the shelves. A letter in a strange unknown language fell out of one
and Nobly found it and told Blackthorn about it. Ian wondered if
there is more to this than meets the eye and theorized that perhaps
Bayla somehow switched minds with a squirrel and was trying to give
them some message. No one seemed to share his theory.
The firehall was also visited by a were-squirrel. ((TCHHK!))
A young newcomer named Tyrus arrived in Camelot. Mace Daniels
helped him with food and clothes while Palmer found him a small room
to use.
TomTom examined Excalibur and seemed excited by some idea which
Ian feared has something to do with Avalon.
Nobly’s sleep continues to be fitful and haunted by nightmares.
And on the last day of the month, Lady Adrienne Nightbane
arrived back in Camelot.
Now, as its people can only wait for the next move of the
Monster, tension mounts in Camelot..
