It's St. Switihin's Day. Over in England they think that whatever
the weather is on St. Swithin's Day will be what they get for the
next forty days:
'St Swithin’s Day, if it does rain
Full forty days, it will remain
St Swithin’s Day, if it be fair
For forty days, t'will rain no more.'
Catchy, eh?
He's also used in a lot of medieval oaths..
"By St. Swithin, I'll use your guts for a bridle" ..and
other such pleasantries.
It's also the Feastdays of St. Felix of Thibiuca and
St. James of Nisibus, but Swithin has better p.r.
and somehow Felix or James just don't make for
manly sounding oaths:
"By St. Felix, I'll use your guts for a er..er...mop!"
See?
Anywho, Happy St Swithin's Day!
Go out there and HUG A SWITHIN!!!
