Interesting how it goes sometimes with writing. There'll be days when
the well is dry and others when it flows so easy. Wish I could figure
out how to keep that flow going steady.
I needed a quote of somekind on Rhiannon to head a chapter of HT,
something from a poem, and could find very little online other than sites
devoted to Stevie Nicks' "Rhiannon". So unable to find a poem either
from ancient or modern sources, I wrote my own. It took me about an
hour or a little less, and went quickly, until I stalled on a final four more
lines. But this is what I ended up with:
Rhiannon's Song
Rhiannon of the Silver Bells,
the ancient druid legend tells
(sometimes with music set to words)
has at her call three wondrous birds
each with great powers. It is said.
The first of these can wake the dead.
The second's song they swear can keep
A man in seven year's deep sleep.
And with it's call the third, they say
Can take all mortal ills away,
Heal all ills and make wounds whole
And even sooth the troubled soul.
Three birds of gold and white and green,
Familiars of the faerie queen,
Those who have chanced to hear Her birds
Cannot express in mortal words
What happened to them when they fell
Beneath the beauty of their spell.
But all throughout their life they long
To hear once more Rhiannon 's song,
